Praia da Gambôa sits right at the entrance to Peniche beside the Fortaleza walls — an easy, sandy urban beach break tucked into the sheltered harbour end of the bay.

It's a reliable fallback when bigger south swells batter the more exposed beaches further north, though it rarely offers a serious, powerful wave.

Praia da Gambôa sits right at the entrance to Peniche, immediately alongside the walls of the Fortaleza de Peniche — making it one of the most easily reached beaches in the whole area, a short walk from the town centre rather than requiring a drive out to Baleal. Surf guides describe it as the last corner of the wider Baleal bay before the built-up town begins, next to another named beach, Praia do Cerro.

As an officially registered urban beach, Gamboa carries a Blue Flag and has been recognised for excellent bathing-water quality over several consecutive years. It has a lifeguard, first-aid post and other facilities during the bathing season, and is protected by a line of dunes extending north towards Praia da Cova da Alfarroba. The safest area for bathing is reported to be near the jetty (pontão), away from rocky formations found elsewhere on the beach.
